The Oriental Pearl Tower is a futuristic building located in Lujiazui, Pudong, Shanghai, separated from Waitan by Huangpu River. It was originally known as the Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower, the citizens of Shanghai just call it the Oriental Pearl. The Oriental Pearl was designed by the East China Architectural Design & Research Institute, began building in 1991 and finished in 1994, standing 468 meters tall. It was the tallest building in China from 1994 to 2007, and surpassed by Shanghai World Financial Center in 2007. Since the completion of the Oriental Pearl, it has been part of the skyline of Shanghai. It is the landmark of Shanghai and a AAAAA-rated tourist attraction of China.
